Miami Township Police Officer Steve Burgess has been appointed secretary of the Ohio School Resource Officer Association Board.
Officer Burgess, who is the School Resource Officer assigned to Live Oaks Career Development Campus on Buckwheat Road, has been serving as the Southwest Ohio Representative for state board, covering 17 counties in the region.
He is an instructor for the association, as well as a School Resource Officer trainer for the Ohio Peace Officer Academy. Officer Burgess is also a facilitator and trainer for the Community Oriented Policing Services In Schools Program that is supported by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Founded in 1996, the Ohio School Resource Officers Association is a nonprofit association of police departments, sheriffs' offices, schools, public agencies, business and other community groups interested in school safety.
Officer Burgess has been the Live Oaks School Resource Officer for five years. The school serves students from Amelia, Anderson, Batavia, Clermont Northeastern, Glen Este, Goshen, Indian Hill, Loveland, Madeira, Mariemont, Milford and Turpin high schools as part of the Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development, the largest career and technical education district in the United States
The Miami Township Police Department has two additional School Resource Officers working in community schools. Officer Bill Adams supports Milford High School, and Officer Rob Heideman is assigned to Milford Junior High School. In addition, the department has two Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) personnel in Officer T.J. Spencer and Officer Kevin Petrocelli
